The first TV ad from Democratic Senate candidate Jim Gaughran released Thursday knocks Republican incumbent Carl Marcellino for being a part of the “corruption caucus” in Albany by initially supporting the GOP conference’s scandal-scarred leader.

Specifically, the ad pulls from a Daily News editorial that slammed Senate Republicans for initially supporting Dean Skelos to remain majority leader after he was charged in a scheme to use his official power to aid his son’s business interests.

Skelos was later convicted and is now appealing.

In the ad, Gaughran compares this with his own tenure in public service, taking credit for writing ethics laws on the local level.

Senate Democrats hope to run competitive races on Long Island this year, especially in Nassau County are targeting several Republican incumbents there, including Marcellino.
