Statement From Jim Gaughran On Fight To Protect Long Island Sound From EPA Dumping Plans

(Huntington, NY) Jim Gaughran issued the following statement regarding the fight to protect the Long Island Sound from becoming an EPA dumping sight for dredged materials:

“Following decades of neglect and outright degradation, we have a responsibility to improve the Long Island Sound and it would be inexcusable for the EPA to damage our efforts by using it as a dumping sight. I have been a longtime advocate on this issue, and am proud of my work as a Town of Huntington Councilman when I fought the EPA and forced a lawsuit to block efforts to dump in the Sound. I commend Governor Cuomo for standing up to the EPA and look forward to working with him and my colleagues on the local, state and national level to ensure no one is allowed to further damage the Long Island Sound.”
